So, now both of my parents are out of work. My Mom was laid off in October. My Dad got laid off yesterday.

Fuck.

I'm worried about them. My Dad wants and needs to work. He is 63 years old. He gave his last company 18 years on the job. They gave him 2 weeks severance in return. How fucked up is that? I am very afraid that he will have a hard time finding work due to his age, even though he is not planning on retiring anytime soon.

Fuck.

Same happened to my dad after 19.5 years. Awesome, no retirement for him. I hate the world.

That's some bullshit right there. 2 weeks severance for 18 years? WTF?! Was your Mom able to find something since October? I hope things turn around for them. This economy can kiss my ass.

I'm so sorry to hear that. It's frightening at that age, I can imagine. I heard about a website on the Today (barf) show or something like that. It was called workforce50 something...(Sorry, just remembered the workforce 50 part.) It's for people over 50 actively looking for work. I sent it to my mom because she too is in her 60s and wanted some tips on getting a job at that age.
